My Time on the path – Raising funds for young carers

Young carers are children and young persons under 18 who provide care to a family member.  They often assume a level of responsibility usually associated with adults. As a consequence, they have less time to enjoy their childhood.

The government has identified that support for young carers needs to be improved and that there are as many as 700,000 young carers in the UK. With budget cuts affecting youth services, the role of charities in supporting this ‘hidden army’ of young carers is becoming crucial.

MyTIME charity offers respite breaks for young carers at their outdoor centre on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset.

From 30th May 2016, I will be hiking solo along the South West Coast Path to raise funds for MyTIME.  The Hike will take me from Minehead to The Lizard.  That’s 300 miles and 17,000 metres of ascent (twice Everest) with a 15 kgs backpack.

Help me to raise funds to enable young carers to have a bit of time for themselves, enjoy outdoor activities and make new friends!

Check out my blog and poems as I prepare for and progress along the path. Find out more about us by clicking the link.

Have a look at our sponsors below without whom this project would not be possible and email mytimeonthepath@yahoo.co.uk if you would like to become a sponsor.
